Land of many Giants!

Exactly one week before the archery opener in Oklahoma we saw several stud bucks walking around in bachelor groups on one of our sleeper properties! The next day the guides and I decided to set up in one of our blinds and scout it much harder as it showed so much potential with the hunting season coming up soon! We grabbed the cameras and tripod gear and headed out. It wasn't long after we got their that this stud 17 pt buck showed himself and didn't have a care in the world. With tall tines going everywhere and great mass, it was a no brainer that we would be having the 1 guy that wanted to test the hot weather on opening week, hunt this bad boy! After a few days of scouting him hard, we became fairly comfortable with his patterns. Immediately I called the client and asked if he could come in one day early before season in order for him to come out early and scout with me so he could see this buck, make sure that his bow was dead on, and get very comfortable with what we were going to have to do in order to get a good shot on this deer as he always stayed in the thick brush line and then came out in the same area every time to graze out in the open and I knew we were going to have to get low and put a stalk on this buck once he started coming down out of the thickets. For two days he barely escaped death, but was fortunately completely unaware that he was even being hunted. We never once blew our cover, played the wind as good as we could, and even had to decide to not hunt deer at all the second morning due to the wrong wind and us being afraid of letting this giant buck figure us out. The second morning you ask what we did? We killed hogs and had a blast! With great fortune on the 3rd day we were able to sneak to the perfect spot that gave us roughly a 30 yard shot from where he came out and stood broadside! With a very nervous moment, filled with anxiety and anticipation our guy released his arrow and the buck turned just enough to where he actually did us a favor and the arrow dropped him in his tracks! With great emotions for both the client and myself, we were able to execute a perfect strategy that with a little skill from us both, and a lot of luck, made things absolutely picture perfect to start our 2018-2019 deer hunting season!
